Kirk Maltby moved closer to re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings with word Tuesday that GM Ken Holland expects to cut the veteran winger a one-year, two-way deal this week. Maltby, 38, likely would start the season with the Red Wings' AHL Grand Rapids affiliate, according to the Detroit Free Press. A member of the Red Wings' Stanley Cup-winning teams in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008, Maltby has appeared in 1,072 games since entering the NHL in the 1994-94 season.
