Georges Vezina was born in Chicoutimi, Quebec in 1887. He played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1910 through the fall of 1925, when health issues caused him to retire. He was only 39-years-old when tuberculosis ended his life in 1926.

The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Jeff Woywitka to a one-year contract. Woywitka had two goals and nine assists in 63 games with the Dallas Stars last year. The Montreal Canadiens have hired Randy Cunneyworth and Randy Ladouceur as assistant coaches. Cunneyworth coached the Canadiens’ American Hockey League affiliate in Hamilton, Ontario, last season. Ladouceur was his assistant. Cunneyworth spent 15 seasons as an NHL player, and was an assistant with the Atlanta Thrashers for two years before taking over in Hamilton.
