The Orlando Magic came into Wednesday night playing dangerously poor basketball. For the losers of four straight games, injuries were mounting and morale was falling daily. The Washington Wizards fired coach Flip Saunders after the team started the season an NBA-worst 2-15. Assistant coach Randy Wittman has been promoted to coach. In more than three years with Washington, Saunders led the Wizards to a 51-130 record.
